Nice short clip. Thanks for the post.. This is based on the philosophy of "William James" who said "Whenever two people meet, there are really six people present. There is each man as he sees himself, each man as the other person sees him, and each man as he really is."
But you can influence the outside circles. If you are actually funny then people will not say that he's a jerk and is not funny. If you bomb every joke that you tell then you are leading the other people to think that you're not funny, which is negatively influencing the outer circle.
