Om my Samsung (also LE40M86BDx/xEH), it was the 2200uF/10V that failed. First, I exchanged the 1000uF - no luck. So have multiple capacitors ready for for the repear.
These TV's use switching type power supplies. USE ONLY HIGH QUALITY 105C, LOW-ESR TYPE CAPACITORS!!!! Use something like Panasonic FC series caps such as EEU-FC1E102L to replace 1000uF caps. Low-ESR type caps are important, if you don't use the right caps...you WILL be doing this again. (Radio Shack and Frys do NOT sell the right type caps!)
Thank you so much from Pittsburgh, PA USA. Home of the Steelers and Penguins! Worked great and saved me hundreds of dollars. I owe you a Samuel Smith!
DO Not attempt to repair yourself - I raised a service request online with Samsung (UK) and a TV shop contacted me next day to arrange repair. They are obviously admitting the TV is defective as mine is over 3yrs old so well out of guarantee!
You rock, you rock, you rock!!!!!! My sons and I fixed the TV using your instructions, My only problem was finding the capacitors but, anything can be found on line! I work in surgery and everyone thought I was brave to open the back of my broken TV. Isn't that a laugh? I have a friend here that thinks you are adorable, she wants to know if you are married? Thanks from Oregon USA
do you have any idea what to do if my samsung plasma has one chime / one click & still wont turn on? capacitors look perfect, have checked them. thanks!

Samsung lost another customer with this! Never again Samsung!
I bought a LCD TV 2 years ago and I payed it 2500 Euro.
I called the customers support (in The Netherlands)and they did like they do know nothing.
After that I let them see 1000 and more websites where customers speak about the clicking noise problem they told me that a repair will contact me.
The repair centre called me after 2 days asking me 200 Euro! Crazy!!!!
2 Euro and I repaired by myself in 20 minutes!
