Most YAS-23 nowadays are made in China! To keep up with the demand, they have to mass reproduce their YAS-23 and the quality is jeopardized in the process.

I play a Yamaha myself, even their YAS275 is good for profesionals. But i will switch to borgani, the yamahas and generally all japanese saxes sound so dead. Not bad, but the sound is so clear and smooth, that is is almost a little boring

What's amazing about Japanese products is that they are well-organized to handle mass-handmade manufacure, which produces inexpensive and high quality goods.
