I upgraded the motor on my Skyfun to the 2826-6 2200kv motor from RC-Timer with a 35 amp ESC. I ordered my SkyFuns a while ago and it looks like the newer versions are coming with larger stock motors. The motor originally on my was a BL250-1800kv with an 18 Amp speed controller.

The motor was $10 and is rated around 340 Watts. This is running on the stock Skyfun propeller. I left my box of other propellers at home so I have no idea how it runs on various props. I tried running it through a Doppler program and came up with around 80mph on the first low fast/pass but it was into the wind and I didn't average over several passes.

  • ok so a $10 motor will give me arround 70 mph on a 6x4. god dammit there goes my noob set up.

would you recommend this motor for scratch built planes on arround 15 to 20 oz.?

    great video and flying.

  • @rolgarcia1 Thanks! You'd probably be okay in a 15 to 20 oz fast plane with this motor. The stock Skyfun is around 19 oz and even more with this motor, battery and ESC combo on it. That can really change depending on the plane and the type of performance you want These small props and fast motors seem great if you're looking for speed, if you want torque then you probably want a similar motor with a lower kV to swing larger props.

  • Great stuff there dude. I was thinking of ordering some motors and lipos from rctimer. Are they a reliable place to order rc stuffs? hey thanks...oh thanks for the video too... ;)

  • @lewandlo I couldn't say as to the quality of RC Timers ordering process, etc. I bought these RC-Timer motors off of eBay and the person I dealt with there was pretty good (probably an eBay name for RC Timer, but not sure). The motors came quick from china, faster than some of the stuff I order from US companies (!)

  • thanks dude.

  • @inciteman I need to put a new battery order in for my mini-titan so they'll probably be nano-techs. After MANY flights over the summer my Turnigy's have lost their punch on climb-outs with my mini-titan. I flew this plane again today at our fun fly in 15-20mph winds and it did well, it definitely needs to be faster though!

  • @TheHouseBlog Welcome... oh thats cool, RC Timer has some inexpensive motors and parts so thats cool! I'd like to see how it would fly with a bigger motor. Have you tried the Turnigy Nano-Tech batteries? Thanks for posting!

  • @inciteman Thanks for the response. No detailed plans on larger motors right now, but I'm sure I'll put something larger on. That pack is a 3 cell 1800mAh pack 30-40c Turnigy. I have a 4s 2200 I want to try but need to get a small BEC first.
