Jeffrey Buttle, the reigning Canadian men's champion, skated a brilliant, error-free short program Friday afternoon at the Pacific Coliseum to take a commanding lead over the rest of the 18-man field at the 2008 BMO Canadian Figure Skating Championships.

Buttle - the 25-year-old from Smooth Rock Falls, Ont., who was supposed to be in peril here against a gang of young and talented guns - landed a triple flip, triple-toe combination, a triple Axel and a triple Lutz to go with the impressive array of spins and footwork that have put him on the world's most prestigious podiums.

  • i think jeff should've won instead of patrick i mean sure patrick did do more jumps but there's no denying it, jeff's amazing the way he just flows on the ice it's just so beautiful to watch him skate. sure patrick might've landed more difficult jumps but come on jeff is clearly better

  • clearly he didnt need those quads ;) ahahah

  • Jeff's skating is pure. So beautiful. Yes, he should have won but he won the big prize a month later at 2008 Worlds.

  • Stunningly seamless transitions...definitely one of the best short programs I've seen.

  • quality.

  • woahhhhh he travels a lot on his spinss.

  • I miss Buttle in competitions. He's such a hoot to watch everytime =)!

  • Great interpretation and artistry!

  • woowa...

  • I WAS AT THIS EVENT WITH BASICALLY

EVERYONE FROM MY SKATing CLUB! :D

    awesome performance

  • Wow! I love Jeffrey Buttle! I met him and got his autograph and got to skate with him! Also I met Patrick Chan!

  • haha couldnt have said it better myself :) his worlds program still gives me chills every time i watch it. The only other programs that has done that to me are patrick chans national short program, and shizuka arakawa when she won worlds! (L)

but yes, i completely agree. It seems as if the artistry is sub par these days. I think it all started with evgeny plushenko's olympics...I think Lysacek has strong performance, but thats it. And I agree, Patrick Chan is the best in the world for PCS
