IMPORTANT! Before you do this exercise/stretch please see your physician. Conditions may be present for which this stretch would not be appropriate.

Above all this is a foot stretch not restricted to plantar fasciitis but helpful for anyone who has feet. It is a combination and modification of yoga and sports stretching techniques. Diabetics will find it beneficial for helping improve circulation in their feet. Some people have emotional feet. Tightening the feet or curling the toes during stress is as common as jaw clenching and fist making. Flip Flop shoes and other backless shoes require gripping with the toes to keep the shoes on and this action can lead to tight feet. Old ankle sprains & strains are other possible conditions that this stretch might help.

  • Yes it's part of the pnf (proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation) technique. To first contract the muscles that you want stretch. In this case Alysia is contracting her toe flexors then stretching them.

  • Probably not anytime soon. That position is less about the foot/lower leg and more about the muscles/fascia of the anterior hip joint. Try searching advanced Yoga for that position.

  • This video is primarily targeting people who have no idea that a foot stretch needs to include the toes. Usually they are in so much pain and so tight that the modified versions are difficult.

I'm not perfect, but I'm so much better!

    A huge thanks!

  • A great video thanks.

Can i ask, when 'she' raises onto her toes, is this a form of PNF stretching.

  • It helps out very well.

  • that was awesome, very helpful. thank you !

  • Great information, thank you!!

  • This is the kind of information people need for self care. This video is clear and easy to follow. See your neuromuscular therapist for regular massage and to be sure you're performing stretches properly. LF
