10 weeks into my return to drumming, I have bought an acoustic Gretsch Catalina Ash kit.

It seems to make sense to have two kits in one, both Electronic and Acoustic, so this version is the 'E' kit.

Roland Mesh heads on top with mylar on the bottoms, using Roland RT-10 Triggers running via a TD-12 and TD-10 TW1 Sound Modules.

For now, the Snare is a Roland PD-125, although I do have a RT-10S trigger to try out on the Gretsch Catalina Snare.

The 'E' cymbals are Smartriggers.

The kit has only just been set up and is not quite complete, but a few people have asked to hear how it triggers, so this is the raw un mixed and unbalanced sound.

The 'A' will still feature a few Roland drums and sounds, but further videos (of better quality) will follow.

My playing continues to improve after the 24 year break, but is a long way from where I would like it to be, but it's fun trying to get there!

Thanks for watching.

  • Hey - are those v pads? Where did you get 16'' mash head?

  • @kocots1991 I get all my gear from eDRUM ATTIC . com

  • horrible samples. such a waste of an awesome kit.

  • @weareewancameron

Why was it a waste of the kit when I was able to play the kit acoustically during the day and electronically via triggers at 3am? Surely that is getting the best use out of a kit?

While the 'recorded V-drum sounds are not perfect, what you hear when playing is far more realistic, but by using some VST, you can play almost any kit you want - 24 hours a day.

  • @1663PPP surely the cymbals are just as loud at 3am?

  • @weareewancameron

No, they are 'electronic cymbals' as well, so I can practise on my kit acoustically during the day and then 'electronically' at night and not have to worry about different position of drums / cymbals, it's the same kit. So it is getting maximum use from the kit.

  • @1663PPP

mate, i have the birch catalina and would love to stick some roland triggers/heads on it...and btw, top marks for ten weeks back on it, skilllllz!

  • how are the cymbals electronic?? it says in the description it's got smartriggers on it but how does that also make it silent?? Thank you in advance

  • I have tried the roland RT10 triggers on my acoustic Premier Signia set with pinstrike heads - like both an electric and an acoustic set. - this way i wanted to use it onstage. But i get a lot of "clicking" sounds etc. Even if i adjust the parameters for the trigger on the drummachine (it´s the TD12 like yours) I cant get rid of this click - di you any ideas to help me?.
