There were so many moon around Jupiter on the night of the 27th that I had had to make a video of them. There was even an eclipse of two of the moons! The duration was about 3 to 4 hours.

  • I shot this with a Takahashi 130 Telescope and a couple of barlows. The camera was a DMK type color or Toucam color camera. Its been a while since I shot it but you can do the same with either.

  • Is it possible to catch 30+ of its moons with 300mm focal length? I have a strange photo of the brightest (non-blinking) light in the sky, I presume it was Jupiter. However, there are 35-40 small, round objects around it. I thought it was dust on my sensor but, would dust be so prominent at near infinity focus?

  • @dtpchilli4life - I cannot really say if its possible. All I can see with my 130mm telescope are the 4 classical moons. I suppose if you had a large enough telescope, clear enough night and really good CCD camera it would possible to see just about everything.

  • Thanks, they are very difficult to shoot and process but I think they are well worth it in the end.

  • The black dot on Jupiter is the shadow of the moon that passes over the middle of the planet. Its a pretty interesting video that shows several things happening at once.

  • this is amazing! how did you capture it? i am looking to buy a telescope, i dont want a cheap rubbish one, i want one to view things like this! please help? thanks

  • sooooo awesome

  • @ByouDanseiKamiEnSai You'd expect the largest planet in our solar system to have many moons im convinced there are many more small moons we've yet to discover. what's more fascinating though is the chance there could be life on some of these moons!! Think underneath Europa's ice crust could be microscopic life forms! or maybe even more complex life!! it's mind boggling to think about really.

  • really awesome! thanks for doing this.

  • Very nice!

  • Holy crap! Nice! I just witnessed a transit for the first time. It was Io. I caught it on tape and animated it. Only got an hour before the battery died on my DSLR. Check out my vids, it's the latest upload.

  • amazing
