  • who else here thinks Public education should be about teaching kids to enjoy learning new things and to have an open mind about the world?

and not about getting the best test scores so the school looks good!

  • old-fashioned teacher: a teacher that teaches what the class is about.

Bush NCLB teacher: teaches you how to fill in bubbles on a test.

You can all thank Bush for stupid white americans. Now they have a reason not to succeed do to their education.

  • @slightlyremoved21 They were stupid when I graduated ten years ago.... Bush just made it worse.

  • @Emrald70 How about Public Education should be about letting Kids set their own Paths(High School).. I think once kids reach High School, They should set their path and daily schedule's for what career they wish to pursue... They should sit down with a counselor who had professed in that same path and figure out a plan with them...

  • when I went to public school they taught me what I needed too know and when the test was over we never talked about it again when I went to private school I got to ask questions form relationships with my teachers and actually went into great detail about when where and why things happened not just they happened that is all I actually enjoyed my private school

  • @gbratboy1 What's funny about this is that the initial NCLB Act has much more to do with progressive liberal politics than conservative ones. The bill was passed with wide bipartisan support, and has been accepted by liberals more than conservatives because it widens the purview of the national government. If you are against Obama because he supports this basic idea--increasing national control of schools--you might want to redefine what you believe 'progressive' and 'republican' to mean

  • @slightlyremoved21 NCLB was a bipartisan bill sponsored by people across the camp from Bush like Edward Kennedy. It was passed 475 yes to 53 no between the Senate and House. Today, President Obama is looking to further incorporate standardized tests nationally with the Race to the Top initiative. I'm not saying I'm a Bush fan, but he's not the one to blame for this; you can't pin that all on one man

  • I believe the standard of teaching should not be lowered so everyone can past the test. I also do not believe that education is correlated to how much money school will get. I think children in XXI century forgot how library looks like. Most of children believe, that they are entitled to get PC, high tech gadgets and everybody forget of what educations is about.

  • I like NCLB because it holds school's accountable for failing students. if schools dont want to face te consequence of funding cuts then maybe they should actually provide a decent education to their students.

  • Eliminate this bullshit program. It's holding the common people back by lowering standards in education...

  • At first I was like, "OH NICE! OBAMA'S GETTIN IN THE GAME!", but then I instantly had a thought. "I bet this is pre-election Obama talking". Yup. Fuck you, Barack, we elected a Progressive Democrat, and got a Moderate Republican.

  • The "Race to the Top" has caused much more harm than good. Greedy teachers and administrators are fighting for recognition and bonuses. White teachers have cheated for years to help white students pass these tests. They simply got copies of the tests and taught what was on them. Blacks teachers joined them in the cheating. They ALL cheat!! We're kidding ourselves if we think they don't. GREED, GREED, GREED! One day, it will all come out in the light. Children aren't robots.
