The issue is phrasing rather then tone for me. You can choose to sing something sotto voce for effect. The fact that she needs to cut the phrases in half or third, while not singing out is a sign that she CAN'T sing any other way. Which is why I consider her an amateur rather then a pro.

She is what you call a pro. There is getting paid and then there is being a professional... They aren't always the same thing. For instance a pro singer doesn't EVER lip sync. She is. A pro builds there skills rather then just coughing out a melody with bad phrasing and weak breath support.

@ lutherd >>>is there really an obvious lip-sync to this rendition? we were thinking this is a concert with all the needed electronic gadgets in placed to make it a live performance same as the ABBA or the EAGLES in concert and made records.

Oh I've heard Ave Maria done by the big time singers, and just because you are a trained Musician, if see "trained musicians" who didn't know diddly squat. Also, why would I listen to Kelly Clarkson's version? Lastly, to me, it sounds great, and the softness behind it helps. To you the weakness in her breathing is a fault, but with the way she sang it, to me, it made it lovely.

It's correct that the breath support is "weak" and the tone is airy, but for some singers (and songs), that can be preferred. Other than that, and the fact that this is an obvious lip-sync, I find it to be a very well performed rendition.

Well, one way to prove your an expert is when other people agree and say you're right -- and I agree. Her breath support is very weak. Not at all to say that it wasn't pretty -- it was. Quite nice. It was just not full of the richness and color that can be drawn from the palet of a classically trained artist. And this is very clear -- not hard to see with even a little classical training, or even by simply listening to other musicians.
