This is an unedited video of the Governing Board Meeting of the Academy of Arts and Minds Charter High School held on 22 September 2011 at 1:30 PM. This video commenced after the schedule start time of 1:30 PM. This is a Public Meeting and subject to the State of Florida Sunshine Laws so public display is not an issue.

At this point, the Governing Board had opened the meeting to public comment. This is the only time that I, as a parent at the school, am able to interact with the Governing Board and address issues facing the school. I have been asking for the the contact information of Mr, Jorge Guerra-Castro who is never present at the meetings. Mr. Guerra-Castro has not appeared "PRESENT" in the minutes of a meeting since March 20, 2007 and prior to 2011 his name appeared only as "NOT PRESENT" in the meeting minutes of September 18, 2007, as filed with Charter school Operations. His name reappeared as a Member of the Governing Board in the minutes of the July 14, 2011 meeting after several members of the Governing Board were found to be in Non-Compliance and put on notice by Charter School Operations in April 2011. If you view the meeting video on July 28, 2011 Part 5 you will see that the members of the Governing Board did not even know who Mr. Jorge Guerra-Castro was. Ms. Holloman actually had to look back through her notes to find his correct name. They actually motioned and approved that Jose Castro be designated as a Board Member at Large.

The Governing Board apparently did not like the questions and decided to walk out of the meeting when I began to read a letter of Non-Compliance from Miami-Dade County Public Schools, Charter School Operations. When I began to read the letter and Mr. Alonso-Poch (Founder, Landlord, Food Svs Provider, and Owner of the Management Company that runs the school) realized wha I was about to read, immediately stated that this was not going to happen and the members of the Board began to walk out. The letter stated that the school had violated state law and the charter contract by charging excessive fees to the students for the past few years. This very important issue was not discussed during the meeting and I felt it was a very serious issue facing the school. It appears that the members of the Board do not share my sentiments on the seriousness of the claim by Charter School Operations.

  • Professionalism at it's finest. As a former student at A and M, I have to say, it is not a surprise that the school is in the trouble it's in. Ask anybody who went there...

  • This is fantastic
