I meant it as a good thing. I assume that he is doing so well because of the interventions and care that he has received. Hopefully he will be able to be independent some day, and be as successful as you, his Dad. He is blessed.

@ckcarlson1 My son's functioning is far below where mine was at this age. I hope he can be independent. Many autistic people will never achieve this, even most I know that have AS.
Language is very important, but isn't a strong indicator for future independence. Fortunately, we don't deal with SIB, and some language and social awareness is there. But there is challenging behavior, far more than most ASD kids in his class. I'm guilty of whitewashing by only showing the positive.

I see you do have your son in some videos. He is so much more high functioning than my grandson. I would not know he is autistic if you didn't say he is. He seems normal to me! Tristan had that same costume when he was about 5. Tristan makes noises often. He has delayed echolaia. He can label some things.

@ckcarlson1 Yes, my son is faking it and he is in an autistic self contained classroom because he is so high functioning .
Yep, normal. Look, my son isn't as low functioning as some kids, but don't judge the needs of a child based on a few minutes. I know this is not your intention, but be careful when looking at a few snippets.
