Hi, This song is just beautiful although like most of You , I don't understand lyrics - but it's not important. The man has beautiful voice and the melody is great.
I've heard this song for the first time watching my favourite TV serial "Northern Exposure".
This beautiful song appears in fourth episode called "Dreams, Schemes and Putting Greens"

We clashed as mighty enemies so long ago
The skies were dark and death only a stone's throw
We were young, country and flag burned within our hearts
The jungle shook with detonation, smoke and fiery darts
The cries of our comrades filled the air, anger, fear and terror
Back and forth the land bled with our blood, nightmare in the mirror
I rushed at you baynet in hand, against you and yours, there we stood
For an instant, a second, we were friends and we both understood

Don't need to watch but will when I feel stronger from my government interfering with my computer:
"Electronic Harassment" as well as "Organized Stalking"
Such torture on humans!
By the way, the side B song is just as great. Hoping you made a video!

Beautiful enough to listen to.
Can't watch video as my government tortures me by attacking my computer:
"Organized Stalking"
"Electronic Harassment"
"Cointelpro"
Will look soon

I did know the title of this song, however I have sung without lyrics for 40 years! I found it!

The real name of this song/record (Ue wo muite arukou) in Japanese meaning "I Look Up When I Walk". Although aware of this fact before steve4nlanguage did us all a favor and uploaded a full translation (worth searching to look for/at if full translation wanted of entire song - look for those foreign kanji and hiragana letters), still under mis-nomer title "Sukiyaki", but really this song has absolutely nothing to do with food, nor is the word "sukiyaki" ever voiced by the singer, Sakamoto.

move to L.A.
I love this song!!..Although "A Taste of Honey" does a nice version of it-(for the younger generation, or what have you)), I still love Kyu's original the best, and thanks for posting!!...
