Nothing to do with being lazy.
It's quite a walk if you want to go to a certain gate if you're at the other side of the airport. Can't be everywhere at the same time, but now you can go fast to someone unconsious or maybe even someone heving a heartattack and you're not completely out of breath. Which comes in handy if someone may need CPR.
And at Schiphol, with about 60-80 million passengers a year, those things happen weekly sadly.

Its not because criminality is higher that the cops are lazy.... here till further advice a cop can be as much as a weed smoker as a civil... ;) They don't hurry with 4 cars when you call the emergency number, and they take like half an hour to arrive..! In North-America, they come within 90 seconds with a half dozen cars on 2 wheels!
