  • How long does it take to clone from HDD to SSD?

  • @john0022 It depends on the size of the drive but anywhere from 20 - 60 mins or so.

  • Everything is explain so clearly. Thank you.

    But I see one problem.

For the cloning process, what if the capacity of the source hard drive is bigger (as it should always be) than the target drive's? (unlike in this video)

The data in our laptop could be less than e.g. 80GB, but most HDD size these days are well over 200GB. How could we clone them??

    Thank you in advance.

  • Well, that's the beauty of the cloning software we used as well as a bunch of clone utilities on the market actually - the software will allow you to specify the partition size on the target, regardless of the source partition size, so long as the data isn't actually larger than the capacity of the target drive obviously. In other words, it should auto-size the partition down to the target drive and I believe I explained that quickly in the video. It's hard to get it all in under 10 mins!

  • This is a very good instructional video. Thanks. But something tells me that it is a good idea to remove the battery from the laptop whenever poking around with components.

  • Yes, definitely a good idea! We didn't do that but I would recommend folks do that for sure.

  • a great walk through for the noobs out there, this is simple stuff, but what the heck is "SAyTA"...haha:)

  • @TheNETech Nah... we do it all the time. The level of magnetism in that screwdriver tip isn't enough to bother anything, even the spinning disk. :)

  • my hdd cover plate was a pain it was one whole plate that covered the ram and the hdd it took me 25 minutes to just get it off without breaking it

  • i used a program called "reflect" it took me 15 minutes to do a complete clone

  • can i replace a 5400 rmp hard disk of my qosmio notbook with an 7200 rpm one? is that going to speed up games?loading n stuff???

  • NEVER EVER DEFRAGMENT YOUR SSD. EVER.

  • that looks like it suports muliple hdd drives because it hase tou sata power/reading cables and it can hold two spaces in the cage

  • Nice tips...................

  • I tried with an sdd smaller (128) than hdd (380) - using disk to disk prompt on clonezilla live. It did not work - it resulted in a illegal partition error noting EOD which I would guess is End of Disk? I did not see any way to reduce the partition size of the target - at least not for a noobish person like me --must be missing something.

  • @chandin69 Get a external CDROM.

  • What sw can i use to clone my netbook hard disk to an SSD seeing as it dosent have a cd drive to boot off
