M3 e36 vs M3 e46 Part 1

M3 3.2 e36 vs M3CS e46 BMW
From aprrox 100km/h to +/-260km/h on the Autobahn the M3 e46 meets the M3 e36 3.2. The e46 starts in 2nd gear, the e36 in 3rd.
Both cars are stock.
See what happens!
ps the e46 had to lift the throttle a little at the end, but the e36 was already starting to pass the e46. See the other parts for another camera angle.

The e36 has the e46s' 3.2? Or the euro version e36 3.2??? Why would the e36 start in the wrong gear I don't get the point of that ?

The e36 has the euro 3.2 (321HP) engine. I started in 3rd and thought the man in the e46 was too. After the race he told me he started in 2nd.

e 36 is alot lighter.power to weight ratio.but the e 46 looks much much better.

All this is true, but the numbers are so close that it if one one them shiffts a litle bit better he can be faster with e36 nd also as was sayid the e36 has better aerodinamics which helps at top end...... sry for my english im not a native speaker

I have a 4.10 m3 e46 if I race a e46 m3 at the speed of 80mph to 150mph I will get owned, if I race him from 40mph to 120 he will get owned.

It does not have anything to do with the weight. the e36 is light but the e46 has more hp. The e36 m3 in the video is probably a six speed and has a lower gear ratio, If I had to guess it is probably 3.15 compare to the e46 which has a 3.62 final drive. Therefore the e36 will be faster in the high end when they are both getting closer to maxing out their cars.

The next reason is the driver and his shifting style. If either one shifts too early or too slow this could happen.

Put on a carbon airbox with alfa-N system in the E36 and you have 343 hsp then watch it burn that E46 !

@Bobert16000 hi robert i hope to support the BMW like me,both cars are very good but if you see the wheels are 19 they seem big and look at the profile of the tyres how small are,the E46 weight is 1570 really is very heavy but good engine and the engine is the same but 100 kilos with the one have 17"whells and the other 19" we know the results,even and the wheels be 18" the 46 is more heavy ,the csl have 1385 20 horse more and is 2 sec more faster,to saw you how inportant is the weight

M5BoardDotcom is the most reliable and accuarte rolling drag races for all German car. They are mostly Porcheand Beamer Engineers who do it for fun.

In this video you can very clearly see that even a 1600kg Convertible E46 beats a 321 BHP E36 Coupe. How much more proof do you need ??

@1985Bimmer Eh? You can clearly see the E46 has 18" wheels. Look at BMWs own specs. Kerb weight for E36 Evolution M3 is 1460kg (minus passengers and fuel). E46 M3 is 1500 kg (e46 csl roughly 1400kg).
