What generator?

When you run your generator, you will get 30% efficiency. Turn that into electricity at 90% efficiency and store it 90%. Now get it back out of your batteries at 90% efficiency and propel your vehicle at 90% efficiency. It is now 19.7% efficient.

One might up this by running a lean burn engine or somehow manage to have magic batteries that store and output energy more efficiently.

One could also not put emissions controls on the generator. The ozone hole disapproves.

@theangrycrab Your point is? At the end of the day an electric car costs 1/10 of a fuel car to run and a lot less servicing and consumables issues.

who has the idea of instaling a generator to the car what is the idea? the point of an electric car is just not to do carbon. and generators do carbon . and this guy is a dummy

hey dummy, not a generator on the electric motor, a gasoline generator to extend the range. for instance right now you go 30-50 miles, at cruise you use 15kw, a 5 kw generator would another 17 miles range. And you could let the genny run to charge it in a remote area. It would use much less fuel since most the power was electric at start.

Nice to hear some straight talk. The current prices of batteries are the main factor for limited range in electric car, there are expensive electric cars with range of 220 miles plus and certainly there will be cheaper electric cars with that and better range in the near future. Battery plants and research is being aggressively funded, this will make electric cars mainstream.

I've heard the road tax is off set when you register it as an all electric. Usually when you register a car, the price drops over years for its depreciation but as an all electric you are charged at a higher flat rate every year.
