ya, it's not perfect. but all wide IS lenses are for crops. all are cheap made. 24-105 is the widest IS L lens. and you get only 24/4. which becomes 37/4 on 7d. the other options is tripod or some other sort of support.

nice blog and video. i'm in the same situation, just learning. 24-105 works fine with IS except when u want smooth camera motion. it starts jumping.. for wide, low light, hand held, probably EF-S 17-55/2.8 IS is the best solution. 24-105 is good all around lens.

I've gotta say, I'm not comfortable with the 17-55. Lots of complaints about build quality, and I wouldn't be able to use it on my 5D.
