What ever kind of music he sings is given the greatest respect, he manages to express the sentiment without being self indulgent, the words are beautifully articulated, the phrasing is musicianly and exquisitely judged... I can enjoy his singing in this as much as any of the great classical composers because of what his artistry draws from what the composer provided...

I don't think anyone has-or could- do it better, or with more feeling. Even Tauber, for whom this was the signature song, and I love him for it and all the rest.

But Mr. Wunderlich's version would be my desert island pick.

@50fummelflott Lieber Lachen als Weinen, damit hat Marry6172 schon recht, meistens. Aber wenn das Glück alles Lachen übersteigt, dann fliessen unweigerlich die Tränen, Tränen der Freude, der Dankbarkeit, Tränen des Glücks, da ist man dann schon nah der Ekstase. Sie scheinen das zu kennen, ich auch... ☺ Glückspilz!
