Hawick Floods 12th October 2005 BBC Report

This is the BBC's Reporting Scotland news feature of the Hawick Floods of 2005. This film shows the aftermath but that night when it was going down was very scary. The bit when the butcher talks about the car that went through his shop window was the eariest place that night before. I was there in the Sandbed area at 2.30am when the water had gone down a bit, but there were cars abandoned in the road, shops with windows smashed (Even ones behind a barrier) and several alarms going off. My street was affected but fortunately the water stopped a meter short of the stair entrance. Across the road however, the wall opposite the Peugeot garage completely caved in as you will see during the interview with the cop. Reports suggest that 3 lorry loads of cars were written off at the showroom. The worst effected area was Mansfield where the rugby ground is.
