Clay Shirky, author of Here Comes Everybody, spoke at the RSA, London, on March 18 2008. After giving three examples of people self-organising online he analysed the lessons and implications for the future. The examples were students protesting, through a Face book group, at a bank withdrawing a free overdraft offer; young people organising an ice-cream eating meeting-up in a square where gatherings were prohibited, and businesses committing online to stand up to the Mafia.
What he is talking about is consistent with libertarianism, as a libertarian would consider any voluntary action as part of the free market. It seems a bit strange that he thinks that it is in contrast to libertarianism.
