Doing some weighted chinups, nothing too heavy. My max is around 130-135, I did one with my friend on my back, but it's really awkward haha.

90lbs, 6 reps. I weigh around 150/155. Doesn't look like I'm going up the whole way because of the angle...but the last one I definitely didn't get.

  • You're strong, and I'm not trying to take that away from you, but a lot of those weren't real reps. You need to extent your arms all the way.

  • @TheAmazingOti Better to do partial reps than no reps, the exhaustion principle. My first four reps were complete, last few weren't because I was getting tired.

But I'm not doing nearly this much anymore...freakin tore my pec 8 months ago and still recovering...

  • Your first ones were not complete reps. Almost all of them were partial. I think I saw ONE complete rep.

You shouldn't go to exhaustion/failure when strength training anyway. Since your form was compromised, you should have lowered the weight.

  • @TheAmazingOti Even though I'm not a tall guy, if I would have stretched the entire way down the weight would have been sitting on the floor, so okay it was not a strict military pullup but they were not partial reps. It's also not a very good idea to lock your elbows with added weight.

Maybe exhaustion hasn't worked for you, but it works for some. That's how I increased my max pullups from twenty to mid thirties-forty last year. It does come with risks though.

  • Bend your knees or hold your legs out in front of you. Do something so you can extend your arms all the way. Also, there's a difference between extended all the way and locked. You should extend them, not lock them.

I'm talking about strength training. Doing more pull-ups is endurance, not strength. Exhaustion works wonders for endurance.

  • @TheAmazingOti I was wearing a weight belt man with two 45 pound plates (anchored around the waist), pretty much impossible to somehow lift my hips up higher so it wouldn't be on the floor, this was the best I could do. Any way it doesn't really matter.

  • I know. I just recommend you use proper form in the future.

That's all I was originally getting at. :)
