God Rest His Soul - The Allman Brothers Band
A man lay dieing in the streets
A thousend people fell down on their knees
Any other day he would have been.....
Preaching
Reaching all the people there
Oh Lord Lord

But Lord knows I can't change what I saw
I Say God Rest His Soul

The Memphis battelground was red
Cause blood came pouring from his head
Women and children fallin' down.....
Crying
For the man they loved so well
Oh Lord Lord
But Lord knows I can't change what I saw
I Say God Rest His Soul

(I breake here)
Solo

But Lord knows I can't change what I saw
I Say God Rest His Soul

The morning sun will rise again
With all the passions growing thin
What we gonna do when war is come.. and we'r
dieing
Dieing for the cause I know

(yeah but)
But Lord knows I can't change what I saw
Say God Rest His Soul

  • am i wrong or this about martin luther king jr?

  • The first time I heard this was at Yasgur's Farm for the unpublicized 20 year anniversary of the 3 day Woodstock Music Festival. I know they didn't sing there, but hearing this song at that place was magical. I will never forget that!

  • Lyrics sound like a tribute to Dr. King.

  • one of the greatest songs ever written/performed IMHO...profound on many levels. Thanks for sharing :)

  • Wonderful song by the Allman Brothers, a wonderful band.

Thank you very much for posting.

  • This was originally released on Vinyl by Bold Records on a (long out of print) LP Entitled "Duane and Greg Allman" ... The Comments below are correct, the name of this outft was actually "The 31st of February". I'm Very Glad to hear that at least part of it is now on CD in the Dreams Box Set

  • classic

  • God bless your soul Marv. RIP.

  • Its on the dreams box set. Its actually by The 31st of February

  • Duane & Greg Allman by The 31st of February.

Great album, has a cover of Morning Dew, and the original recording of Melissa.
