The signature tune of world famous orchestra leader, Mantovani. In the 1950's it introduced his "cascading strings" style, for which he is best known although, through the orchestra's long career Mantovani made full use of every orchestral instrument and produced a large number of albums which sold millions all over the world.

If you'd like to know more about Mantovani, try this web site: http://www.hallowquest.com/mantiindex.htm

To create the cascading strings sound on the keyboard, you'll need to play four finger chords in the right hand in all their inversions, using finger substitution on the way down the keyboard to maintain at least two notes playing at all times, thus avoiding any breaks in the sound. Easy to say, less easy to do :)

  • Wow! Fantastic rendition! CHARMINE was written by Erno Rapee' and Lew Pollack expressly for the 1926 Silent Film WHAT PRICE GLORY?, Directed by Raoul Walsh. Charmaine was the name of Dolores Del Rio's character in the picture. Based on the popular stage hit, and Fox answer to MGM's blockbuster THE BIG PARADE (1925), with John Gilbert and Renee Adoree, WHAT PRICE GLORY? starred Victor McLaglen and Edmund Lowe as on again off again fudeing war buddies, Sergent Quirt and Captain Flag.

  • @goldenmoviepalace Hi, Thanks for all that info! Is there any truth in the rumour that Rapee & Pollack was a pseudonym for Mantovani himself?

    Best wishes, Paul
