Riyaz. I am playing a drut gat, Yaman Kalyan, teentaal. I've been playing since June of 2008. I studied with Sri Patric Marks from June 2008 until November 2008 when he sadly passed away. He was one of the warmest souls I've ever had the pleasure of meeting and he has instilled a great desire to learn this instrument deep within me. For that and the memories of our lessons, I will be forever greatful.

  • Hey Hey! Thats cool work dude! Well done well done! Gawd! I am soooo happy! As happy as when I first successfully played the Tilak Kamod gat of Ustad Rais Khansaab! Well done!! Kudos x 3 !! Keep me posted! Should you need any guidance...at all...If Ill be able to help, I certainly will... :)

  • Thank you so much! Sitar seems to take over my life a little more every day! Such a wide sea of knowledge out there and so little time!

  • It is obvious you are taking the music seriously. No games. Just simple core. Nice fingering on the frets for transitions. Nice even strokes on the left. Props to you for posting a video at your early stage and resisting anything fancy! . (Keep making them and posting as time goes by. It will be good to weatch your progress.)

One tip if it is OK - try tapping your right foot to the beat. One foot tap per matra. Soon it will be second nature and will really assist as rhythms get more complex.

  • Thank you, I will definately have more videos as things move along. I actually just quit tapping my foot because of the camera. I've played guitar for a long while and tapping my foot is a habit that I'll always have! Thanks for watching and the nice comment.

I plan on taking this instrument as seriously as I can. Hindustani classical music is very demanding but if I can ever get to the level to properly render a raga and express myself with the instrument, I'll die happy.

  • Good job, mister! Sorry to hear your teacher passed away. You can at least tell yourself that somewhere, someone is using your video to learn raag yaman. So there is somehow a transmission of knowledge travelling through air waves.

  • Very nice!

  • Very nice to see you here.

Nick AKA trippy monkey from the forums.

  • Very Nice! I'm new to the sitar after 6 years of tabla studies. The sitar is VERY addictive! esp. if you have one made by Tony K. I met him a few weeks ago, whatta guy!
