it was appropriated by the Jews and the reason it's called 'Shield of David'' in Hebrew but ''star of David by the rest is in the story of adopting of this symbol by Jews. originally it was 'Negam Dud'' - 'star of the Dudd, the ancient arabic deity of fertility. Jews turned the word 'Negam' - star in Arabic backwards and got Magen -shield', hence Magen David' - shield of David... nothing to do with David !...
