Or it could be about heaven, i guess

@wendileona That was my first impression when I heard the song. Although it does have some resemblance to "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" if you think of it as sci-fi.

@kirkhetfieldtrujillo Excellent analysis

@wendileona Excellent description, thank you! That's EXACTLY how I feel about it. Also been listening to it for decades and always got that vibe from it. It's about having much light in your heart but always communicating it in a dark manner. This is the only song I've ever paid attention to the lyrics. (not at all the poetic type). This is a very powerful song.

who the hell is the one knob that dislikes this

I had this song in my dream last night. I've liked it, as I've heard it before but not for a few years. When I read what its about it gave me goosebumps because I have read a lot of books on UFOs because I've had an experience yet have left the subject alone for about a year...just strange to have it in a vivid dream.

Most interesting.

Although the song is about a kind of sci-fi scenario (which sounds spectacular by the way!), the other day, after listening to this song for years... it hit me, could it be about people who really just chose darkness in what they do or create?
Keep it dark. The news, the music, horror movies, the world, except that the person wishes to really tell you that the world is much brighter and joyous and beautiful than the what is represented in movies and other forms of art thats kept dark.

@khidafi It's about a man who gets abducted by aliens, and is taken to a world happier than the one he lives in, but feels that he has to lie about it, and so claims that he was kidnapped by thieves who wanted his money. It's meant to focus on the irony that a sad lie would be more believable than the happy truth.

A forgotten, often under-rated tune by Genesis. Miss the days when music like this ruled the airwaves.
