"The Polish port (...) was heavily defended"? Yeah, gotta love it.
1. Danzig was not a Polish port. Only the arsenal and the transit depot were Polish.
2. The small contingent of 182 Polish troops at the Westerplatte (and only there), resisted bravely (behind secretly built barriers) with a mere one 75 mm field- and two 37 mm AT guns, yet is hardly anything that would at any time be called "heavy" defence. Brave indeed, yet hopeless as no retreat or reinforcement was ever ordered.
"Love" the British commentary, sounds as if Germans shelled themselves. No wonder that the average person is usually ignorant in the subject of foreign history if its "educated" by such hastily prepared material.
