According to wikipedia a lot of shit went down in Neshabur, Iran. But the most interesting among them is this: In 1221 Ghenghis Khan's son-in-law was killed in Neshabur so his wife (Ghenghis Khan's daughter) ordered death upon the whole city, and had the skulls of men woman and children stacked into neat little pyramids.
This is one of many incidents that took place in Neshabur, whether or not Carlos wrote this song about it, we can only imagine...

I think that even though he's predominately a pentatonic noodler, Santana is somewhat of a fusion guitarist. He uses natural and harmonic minor alot, and he does have quite a few worthwhile jazz compositions too.

Not sure of why the incident happened, but Neshabur / Nishapur is in Iran. It is the home of the ancient Persian poet and mathematician Omar Khayyám.
