I should have specified my Fiero is not a Fiero duke block, but a Super Duty 4cyl. However, there is not a whole lot of difference between an s10 2.5 duke and a pontiac 2.5 duke. Same design really. S10 block just has a little stronger mains and thicker deck I believe, and starter bolt holes on the opposite side. Fiero 2.5's like to grenade if you push them much past 125hp. With a marine crank or SD4 crank and a stronger head and internals s10 duke will put up with more. as you see in this vid
I have one of these SD4 motors in my Fiero. For an early 80's 4 cyl these motors are very impressive. Consider these motors have been built to over 300 HP naturally aspirated. That is more HP than Mustangs, Camaros and Vettes made during the same 80's era with V8's.
That is comparing a race 4cyl vs. stock V8's, but still....
a 2.5 can be built to have some power. roller lifters, sealed power makes good rings, get some good bearings and polish the intake and exhaust on the head and use good head seals/valves .check out my build videos on here
my 86 S-10 has the 2.5L in it and pull a 16 foot car trailer with my Fiero on it to the strip from time to time and never have a problem with power, granted I converted to a tall ratio overdrive 5 speed and have 4.10 gears in the rear end
How the fuck can you get 230hp out of a chevy 4cylinder. Fuck sakes I have the same god damn motor in my s10 right now and im getting 120hp from it. The only way I could think of you doing that is slamming thousands of dollars for performance parts. These engines are known for lasting long, not going fast. I guess what i'm saying is i'm jealous. hmph.
I have an 89 s-10 with a bad 2.5 .... how much would it cost to make a good performer maybe 125-150hp? because at this time I can't find parts for it... like steel cranks, rods, heads, intakes, I know I can get a cam. Any leads will be a big help to me. I do have headers and a 700r4 for a V-8 swap but we just put a 383 in my brothers s-10 jimmy and he spent $7500.00 on it (but its NASTY!!) and I don't want to get that deep in it
I was contemplating building my motor in a similar fashion.. But I think a rebuilt 4.3 would be a better investment.. If you have the money to do this though, why not? I've never heard such a mean sounding 4 banger haha awesome.
you are wrong!!!!! scat ot of cal. has made a v4 for years!! they run them in midgets and dune buggies.and fyi make up to and above 300 h.p. how do i know??i have made and repaired their cranks and cams thank you dumbass!!!
