@5demay0 AS Bikes is actively increasing rack capacity on campus. Recently to meet increased demand they've replaced racks at Music and Campbell Hall with higher capacity racks.

Rack placement and funding is not a CSO function but CSO assists with enforcement of campus laws. If you have a question or suggestion about racks, funding or placement contact bikes@as.ucsb.edu. AS BIKES funds most racks and bike projects at UCSB. Hope this clarifies!

Bike racks have become increasingly over filled with bikes. Answer me this UCSBPublicSafety: How many new bike racks have been installed since, say, 2008? It seems as though the rate at which the student enrollment is increases exceeds the rate of the number of new bike racks that are implemented on campus.

And where does all the money that you take from the students go by the way?

Here's an idea: Take the money that you take from the students and use it to buy new bike racks.

@UCSBPublicSafety Additional racks within a close walk include: Phelps Hall, PSBN, Chemistry Building, and the Bus Loop. Hope that helps!

@smcburneylin Bikes are impounded when they are illegally parked. Also, at the end of the year bicycles are abated from residence halls to make room for new students! Generally signs are posted with advanced notice. If your situation is unique then stop by the CSO office and fill out an appeal form or speak with the supervisor. The appeal process is done by a third party and if approved you are reimbursed for the lock.

@tehpeh Sorry about your frustrations. AS BIKES has recently replaced a large portion of those racks with higher capacity racks. They're also looking for other ideas to increase capacity. Let us know if you have suggestions on increasing rack capacity and we'll forward your comments to them. Until then when full we recommend parking in another rack or wait til available. This limits your chances the bike is stolen, is a safety hazard, or receives a complain and becomes impounded. Thanks!
