There's a terrible lapse between the sound and the video (the audio being a few seconds ahead), but what do I do about it? It's the pits, I know. Hopefully I'll replace it before long with a better quality if I can.

Clip from The Alfred Hitchcock Hour episode titled "The Jar". Originally aired on February 14, 1964:

Locals gather in Charlie's house one last time to wonder what's in the jar. This is the final scene of the episode, but it's cut off just before the ending surprise.

Starring Pat Buttram ("Green Acres"), Collin Wilcox, George Lindsay ("The Andy Griffith Show"), James Best ("Dukes of Hazzard"), Billy Barty, William Marshall, Slim Pickens, Jocelyn Brando, Alice Backes, Jane Darwell, Sammy Reese, Carl Benton Reid

  • what is the music that is playing in the background? It is creepy!

  • The music is by Bernard Herrmann. The best film composer ever, in my opinion.

  • How come they don't put this on an easy to find dvd like the regular AH Presents? And I wouldn't want to see the remake..... I love the original cast, especially James Best!

  • I don't know, but I wish they would. We probably won't see it on DVD for a very long time considering they're currently releasing "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" one season per year and this series, "The Alfred Hitchcock Hour", immediately followed "Presents". There are 10 seasons of "Presents" and they've just now released season 3.

  • There's a guy here that is the spitting image of Henry Fonda.

  • You're probably referring to Sammy Reese.

  • Wow, thank you SO much for uploading this! Did you tape it from TV? I'd love to watch the whole thing. Too bad it's not on DVD. I've always hated Pat Buttram's voice after seeing this episode. It always made me think of this show. (my brother can do a perfect imitation of his voice and IT scares me too! LOL)

  • It's Mr. Haney from Green Acres

  • The musical motif Hermann so customarily beautifully uses is, of course, the Dies Irae (Day of Wrath), a Medieval chant in the Roman Catholic liturgy. Most haunting episode!

  • Where is the whole episode ? I ve seen it already on YouTube.

  • This was Lynchian before Lynch ever made his first film!

  • HAHA! I loved ths as a kid. Scaired the hell out of me and the guy at 1:00 is Slim Pickens. I still have the shotgun he gave my grandfather. :)

  • i remember watching this as a kid and that jar freaked me out.i always remembered this episode but never saw it gain untill a few months ago.creepy good.

  • Just wondering why your other clips from "The Jar" are only a few seconds long. Why did you bother? It's no wonder you have leaving comments disabled.
