For the past 15 years, Provena Mercy Medical Center Sister Rita Heart Center employee Cindy Gutzwiler-McNelis has volunteered as an animal rescuer taking in animals that are abandoned, unwanted and abused. She keeps these animals until she can find them a new home. However, some of the animals end up staying with her permanently because they become part of her family.
Cindy's love for animals goes back into her childhood. She started doing animal rescue at age 16 while working at a veterinarian's office. Her years of experience at the vet clinic and doing animal rescue have allowed Cindy to gain the knowledge and expertise that is often sought out from many.
Currently, Cindy's family includes: 5 horses, 4 cows, 6 sheep, 4 goats, 4 geese, 12 chickens, 12 rabbits, many cats , 9 dogs and 1 turkey.
