Eschewing the gamy talkiness of Tarantino's work, City of Industry is a film driven by mood and its own unrelenting nihilism. All the performers bring great gravity to their roles. Hutton, after years in the cinematic wilderness, brings a jumped up resonance to his character that's miles away from the tortured youths that were once his specialty.
With solid performances in Backbeat and Blood and Wine behind him, Dorff expands his range with a convincing portrayal of youthful amorality. City of Industry is, of course dominated by Keitel, the god head of indie crime films. Working with limited dialogue, he plumbs each gesture for everything that it's worth. Like his bad lieutenant and Mr. White, Roy is another classic creation.

Next time you watch this flick, think of it as a western. It's pretty close...

not great movie, not very developed storyline. But amazing beginning, so minimalist! Incredible.

Violent and cynical, City of Industry is everything a crime film should be: gut wrenching, powerful and intensely gripping. ---Erin Free
