  • John, Thank you! I have played for over 40 years and now I think I finally found a good teacher!

  • Thanks very much. Since I can't give you private lessons get my book 'Guitar Workout'. It covers all the most basic and important stuff I feel everyone needs to know if you want to play at a professional level. Good luck.

  • hey man just one question.. should we use the pinky finger or not? cuz for example from the 5th fret to the 8th fret i use the pinky finger am i right?

  • Use both fingers and experiment. I bend notes with the third finger so I'm in the habit of using the third finger. If people can't see your hands but the recording sounds good who cares? Thanks!

  • Great video! This is the best video and best explanation about minor pentatonic scale I've came across.

Some of the videos that teach this scale don't even bother about 2nd,3rd,4th or 5th pattern, they are stuck on 1st pattern and some don't even mention that there are 5 patterns. As I was thinking (before I found this video) there is only 1st pattern and was wondering "How come this is the most used scale if it's so limited??"

  • Man, what a good guitar lesson video! Thank You very much John.

  • @henryplatt start on the e string ...find d on it

  • @zab345 You should use whichever feels comfortable for you! For example, I have big fingers and I really have trouble using pinkie at higher positions... (15th+ fret etc.) Because my 4 fingers just don't fit in 4 frets, so I use only three of them. Slash plays like this aswell, and for example Paul Gilbert, almost doesn't use his middle finger at all, he uses Index, ring, pinkie.. for most of his stuff :P

  • Real clear explanations there. Many thanks.

  • Thank you for the video and the trouble you went through making it. It is very helpful indeed.

  • Good stuff, man. Best explanation I've seen.

  • @henryplatt if the fretboard ends before the notes of your scale do...then you shouldnt use that box there. If you are improvising you can bend up a half step or whole step on the last fret to "create" the note you are looking for.
