This is a good idea, I will have to work on it with my parrots. How did you get them use to you touching their feet while doing this? As I have a couple of birds that don't like the feet being touched.

a few secounds then do it a bit longer each time also treats and praise may help and good luck

Hi Rocky! How long did it take Kayto to accept having his nails filed? I think I made Ozzy fearful of having her nails done because she had a bad grooming experience early on. I would prefer not to have her groomed anymore because she doesn't like it. She is fully flighted now, so all I have to do is the nails. Do you think I can gradually get her to accept me filing them?

Hi Ludibu,

you can slowly train ozzy for nail filing,first bring out a file and let ozzy examine it ,if he wishes even give it a few bits let ozzy sit on your finger or a perch and slowly do one nail a couple of strokes if the bird is very freaked out and some get that way give ozzy a special treat

or a distraction like his favourite chew toy then slowly do a nail again do this ever day a couple of strokes on each nail then more strokes on each nail each day and good luck.

i have one too except she loves my dad and hates my mom.(its not a pretty picture when she's in her cage and my moms next too it)=)

yes they have there favourite people,Kayto is everones bird very well socialized.His favourite was me but I'm with him the most a flock mate.
