This Existence

A Self Portrait

This existence diluted by the
dark cycle of an artless flicker
remains devout
for in the center of this temple
to imagination lie a shrine to ennui
armored by the very skin of its victims
and polished by dismissive
statements to our heads
thus we kneel to this alter
and devise our own prayer
to sit seduced by cigarette smoke
and keep a mindful belief that
this phase of existence is
better than sleep
so we yield to the faithful
and dissolve amongst our friends
dividing into serving sections to
be sacrificed in the end

lest we shatter the citadel
