Discussion About Racism and Song After

Just because most of those guys who brutally beat up the Asian guy "look the same" does not make their act excusable from being considered an act of discrimination. Race is no longer a black & white (literally and figuratively) definition, and so our defs must also evolve as our society changes. For ex., think about how many cultures are technically in the bloodline of a person you know; let's use a person whose descendants are of multiple Asian ethnicities plus maybe a Caucasian (which still means mixed of diff. "white" races) father. That person travels to Europe where everyone sees him or her as Asian bc they visually look Asian to them, but really, that person does not consider him or herself as Asian but instead American. See how tricky the issue of race gets now? To me, race has become more what one person considers oneself as--esp. in an increasingly individualized yet integrated, open world.

Our definitions also have to evolve with our changing world.

Hey guys! Thanks for the comments. My Mac remains broken, so I've been MIA from YT since I've been spending most of my time studying for the MCAT. A friend reports in the Chicago area and filled me in on everything later that the guys were purposely setting out to beat up the first defenseless people they saw and record it for fun (not like that makes it any better). You are basically emphasizing culture, hence the the guy from China, and the Asian American kids. Chinese and American culture are different, and right now the new generation of these American kids seem to be heading down the drain.
