Drew Struzan: The Appreciation of an Artist

So many people are digging on photoshop like they know what the hell they're talking about. You paint in photoshop, and it is just as tasking as traditional media and perhaps even more so because you are now expected to not mess up anything. Just check out Andrew Jones, Craig Mullins...

What distinguishes Struzan is the heart he puts into the picture - NOT the tools. Put Struzan behind a computer desk, and you will get a Struzan picture out, not a photoshop one. Same for any other artist.

Back in the 90's I sent Drew an email complimenting him on his work and he was gracious enough to respond back. Interestingly enough most of his response barely touched upon his art or technique. What impressed me was his spiritualism. It really gave me an insight into why his art is so great. Sadly, artists like Drew are being called upon less and less as art buyers routinely fall back on the lame-o photoshop crap that is the norm.

This Guy is so freaking talented, I wonder if hope they use him when the Dark Tower is actually made.

Sadly, I think he retired last year.

At first, I never heard of this guy but thanks to The Nostalgia Critic, I've instantly become a fan of the guy.
