I would hope an indoor cat wouldn't get hit with a car...

I would prefer to have an exclusively indoor cat. If the cat has enough to do indoors, it will be perfectly content (and I can avoid having a cat that has walked in dirt getting on my furniture), and ON AVERAGE indoor cats live longer. I am sure there are lots of outdoor cats that have lived long lives, but there are also smokers who live to be 100 years old, but we know those are the exceptions to the rule. If YOUR cat is happy and healthy going outdoors on its own, then that is great.

my ginger male domestic short hair was outside from a kitten (i cant remember the exact age) he lived till nine, he was never hit by a car, or got any disese. he died of a heart attack during an operation for bladder stones. i still blame our vet for that. i now have two cats, one is a bengal/domestic short hair cross and the other is a domestic shor hair. i dont see a problem with letting cats out if you live in the right area, my house has a huge garden and acres of fields, perfect for hunting

My first cat would chase foxes away from the house... she became 18 years nothing wrong with letting them be outdoors as long as they are afraid of roads and cars...
