Its pissing like a sailor! Nice build

@griggsb. Where is the Serial number on the motor? 308-6001 is written on the manual though, could that be it?

its idleing a little too fast, turn out the idle screw a little

Thanks because i might be getting a old 9.8 hp Kiekhafer Mercury. I think it's a 1962-65. It might need a new impeller, do you know where i could get one?
thanks

What year is this motor? Me and my dad are workin on a Mercury motor and I think this is the same year, we don't know its year.

@airboy90 I believe a 1972. What are the serial #'s on your motor?

@griggsb. We've just located its manual. Its a 1971, 9.8hp 110. Our main problem is the wire that runs to the kill switch and the prop is slipping when the boat is under way. We're wondering if we have the rubber hub torqued properly.

@airboy90 Serial # is on the side of transom bracket. Prop slipping is probably a spun hub, or partially sheared prop pin. Rotton wiring is common on those Mercs. Can you solder? If so cut wire back until you get to good part, and patch it in. I had replace every wire on magneto of my other 9.8. Took about 3 hours.

Sold long ago. Newer carb than older 9.8's. Don't like to idle too low. I adjusted it then, and it wanted to stall in gear at idle. That's where it liked to idle the best.

are all the older outboards 2 strokes?

For the most part they were 2 strokes. I know Lauson made 4 strokes back in the fifties. There's a nice video on youtube of a restored Lauson 4 stroke.
