(cont'd) I'd be able to shoot back, unlike w/ predatory bill collectors, other lawyers and law students and the school that will forget about me upon graduation.

As I mentioned in my comment on your last video, it's good the US still is determined to keep large numbers of forces deployed in the middle east and central Asia. At least then I can get IA'd to Iraq or Afghanistan, make O-3 pay w/o fed taxes withdrawn, get haz duty pay and be legally shielded by the US govt from having to pay law school debt for 6 months or so. But then again, I could get turned into liquid goo by an IED, but I'd rather have to face Al Qaeda or the Taliban because I'd be ab

"there are no golden tickets in life" "I will get an honest job"
well said.
when you see too many people doing the same thing you are doing then you know for sure you are doing it wrong.

@pikefrankie I graduated from a tier 1 school, middle of my class in 09.
Like nearly everyone in my class, the place that I interned before graduating withdrew their job offer during my 3L year.
I had to get admitted to the bar and then job hunt for 5 more months
before I got a low paying job doing mostly criminal defense for a tiny firm in the middle of nowhere.
On the up side, I'm getting plenty of trial experience and my pay is rising as I get more clients.

Big lol at the very end

Exactly how I feel. I'm tired of hearing "you should feel great; you have a law degree! You passed the bar! When you do get a job, you'll make lots of money!" Um, no. A J.D. does nothing but keep me from getting retail jobs that I would gladly take at this point. Passing the bar does nothing but make people think I'm suddenly an experienced lawyer and wonder why I have no job. And you can't make ANY money if you can't get a job! It is refreshing to hear from the average grad.
After reading various articles on the web about not going to law school and watching these videos im even more confused than ever!!! I know that if you go to second and third tier school your chances of getting a job are slim. What are my job prospects if I attend a Tier 1 law school? My chances of getting into tier 1 schools are very high. The T1 law schools I considering are NYU, Duke, Cornell, and Georgetown. Is it worth attending these schools? are job prospects good ?

@pikefrankie - You're definitely in a better position if you come out of school ranked in the T-14. Nevertheless, six figures of debt is still six figures of debt.
Also, while T-14 students tend to be happier with their decision to go to law school, a satisfying job isn't guaranteed. It's good that you're putting serious thought into this decision.

Just bear in mind.
Scrooge climbed up the corporate ladder too.
There is more to life than money.

True. But getting to the point where you can afford a home and support your family does require a half decent salary. I don't think most law students want to be tycoons - they just want a stable lifestyle.

This sounds like someone had a very bad experience at law school and some of the arguments made in this series (not just this part) are overinclusive. For example, leaving home and the people you know could also be said to people going to medical school or undergraduate college. With that said, I fully agree that it would be foolish to view law school as a "golden ticket".

No, no, I had a bad experience AFTER law school. Agreed that there are other poor choices when it comes to higher education, but law school is a default option for too many people. Because of the market saturation, starting salaries and the availability of jobs are in now way accurately reflected in the law school marketing materials.
Sadly, until you're finally out of law school, it always seems hard to believe this. I resisted the truth until the bitter end.
