Went to Pickards Mountain in NC near Chapel Hill and took an 8 day workshop on cob cottage building May 2th through 9th. We were building the cob house for Margo, the garden manager who works on Pickard Mountain. Had a great time....wonderful vegetarian food from the organic garden cooked by Megan the owner on site, great people, good instructors, Gregg and Mike; rain and storms, camping in leaky tents and lot's of ticks, escaping goats, a sick pick, fresh eggs from chickens on the farm, sore hands and cut feet, laughter and singing, campfires, popcicles and trips to weaver street in muddy clothes....no, really, really muddy clothes. Thanks everyone for a joyful and special week.

  • Thank you for doing this Nita! I've been sending this link to all the people in my life who are always prodding me for more documentation and photos and such.

  • Thank you Greg. And just for any doubters that just about ANYONE can build cob....I'm the 60 yr.old lady in the middle of the pack with the green shirt and cowpoke hat. I wasn't always as fast as the younger ones but I adopted my own style that allowed me to participate.

  • how can protect a cob house against freezing rain i live in northeastern arkansas and the weather here gets crazy

  • Did you need a permit for thisÉ

  • what about the roof?

  • I live in North Carolina too, and I want to build a cob home someday. Even though I don't plan on living in NC for long after I finish college, what are the building regulations for cob here? (Out of curiosity)

  • @OldCorpBLT13 Cob is straw (or hemp), sand and clay.

  • What is "cob?" Is it just mud and straw? How is it different than adobe?

    Nicely made video BTW.

  • How come noone uses a cement mixer???? all these videos sho everyone do ing all by hand

  • I'm sorry, but how stupid to post a 1/4 finished Cob when the premise is that you built one.
