Its almost 25 years since The Rat Packs last performance together, and over 10 years since the last of them, Frank Sinatra, died. And yet, what magical memories the very mention of their names still evoke.
The term "Rat Pack" was apparently first used in the 1950s to refer to a group of friends in Hollywood organized around Humphrey Bogart and including the young Frank Sinatra, after Bogarts wife Lauren Bacall, on seeing her husband and his friends return from a night in Las Vegas, said "you look like a goddamn rat pack. The name stuck, but it became the stuff of legends a decade later, in the 60s, when Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis, each one already a star in the international firmament, struck up a friendship that went on to make performance history.
Most thrilling for us in Bangalore, singers like Stanley Pinto, Carlton Braganza and Venkat Subramaniyam have kept The Rat Packs legacy alive and well. And because The Rat Pack wasnt just a boys club, not with the likes of Judy Garland and Shirley Maclaine and, years later, Liza Minnelli, always on side and often on stage with them, neither are we, with Priya Mendens and Alexis DSouza never too far away.
So sit back, relax, and open your minds and your hearts to Bangalores reincarnation, re-interpretation and celebration of the songs of those wonderful entertainers called THE B.RAT PACK!
Simply fantastic!!
