It was a can of butane gas, the heat causes a rapid expansion of the air forcing the bead back on, tyre will mostly be flat but you could pump it up :) only really useful for re-seating beads.

he probebly used starter flued it works by the fire warming the air verry fast casing the tire to remake a seal with the rim but if you don't add air verry fast the tire will get sucked in and probebly split in two peces
