LIRC (Linux Infrared Remote Control) software includes a handy tool
called irrecord. It takes advantage of a machine's (a T30 ThinkPad in
this case) serial port compatible IrDA port (SIR). You can record the IR
codes of your remote controls with irrecord and use the resulting
configuration files with Irreco (with IR backend installed). With Irreco
you can then easily control the machines you want from one actual device
(Nokia Internet Tablets (770, N800, N810) instead of multiple physical
remote controls.

  • Can you do the same for USB IR? It's hard to find (not so technical) info about it on google.
