Because it's a great fucking song.

Primrose up there not only sites some of the most obvious 'radio rock' examples of great older music, but completely disregards anything new. He doesn't even seem to be looking for it and revels in it, despite doing the same for younger generations in the opposite direction. (He's assuming no one looks back, and that's a sin, but he won't look forward.)

He's morning the loss of something still very much alive. He's ignoring what's there, literally ignorant.
