Welcome back to the second part of our interview with Jonathan Blow, creator of the indie smash BRAID and the upcoming THE WITNESS.

In this episode, we begin the discussion of what it means to spend our time playing games. Paramount to this: our discussion of "achievements" and how they feed into creating structures that presuppose challenging design.

Enjoy!

See you next week when we go even further into design trickery and BRAID's tricky narrative.

  • Yo just wanted to say, you're getting a lotta rude-ish criticism, but don't take it personally. You clearly know the issues you need to work on and I'm sure you'll do great. Keep up the good work!

  • @stevesan Thanks so much! We love this show, and we're gonna make it better as it rolls along. Thanks so much for watching.

  • @StateofPlayShow When you're interviewing someone, you shouldn't say "Yeah" "Sure" "Definitely" "Totally" at the end of every single one of their sentences. I'm trying to listen to what Jonathan is saying and it's like there's a little dog barking in the background every 4 seconds. You should listen to NPR or watch 60 minutes or something and be more like them.

  • @dixong Hey, we hear you. When we're back with Season Two in April or May, things will be quieter on my end. Thanks for watching!

  • 5:05 He is so right, they aren't game mechanics, they are addiction mechanics.

  • @SuperMistland I don't find his comment rude at all. He didn't call the interviewer any names (unless you really think the barking dog metaphor was a slur), and he also suggested a means to improve. I find his comment concise and constructive.

  • @dixong While you have a point, there is no need to be insulting to get the point across. Perhaps before you post a comment like that, sit on it for a minute or two and ask yourself how you can rephrase it so it is more concise and less rude.

  • @StateofPlayShow That's fantastic to hear :), I can't wait!

  • @KampfKiewi245 @steamednotfried We're back in shape now, and the last half of this interview will be up within the week. Stay tuned!
