Gay Civil Rights: A Thought Experiment

@Dar0A0Nakk I think it's important that people realize homosexuality is no more defined by behavior than is heterosexuality. But you know, I also think the whole "is it a choice?" debate is irrelevant. Even if it WAS a choice . . . so what? Is this a free country or not?

I'm still not convinced that sexual orientation is innate, just because people insist that it is. It's a preference... bisexuals are good evidence of this.
Don't get me wrong... people should be able to fuck who they want, but this thought experiment doesn't actually clarify anything except that you believe a person's interest or disinterest is what determines their sexual orientation. If I dislike the taste of beets, does that mean I was "born this way"? Am I innately a "beet-hater"?

An impressive articulated post - thanks a bunch

Last summer when my home state, New York, legalized gay marriage I was on vacation in Baltimore. I recall Governor O’Malley saying that he would make gay marriage a priority in Maryland as well it’s good to see he is sticking to what he said. Also I can’t wait to see what people in mail call have to say about gay marriage!

Do people not already know this? isn't the definition of homosexuality to have a preference to ones own gender, action has nothing to do with it.

I'm nodding my head with you on this one, Steve. Everyone should have the right to be just as miserable as the next person... in marriage :)

Good vid, Steve. Agree to 100%. However, I also think it should be added that many of the same people that were against de-segregation are now against gay rights, even though they often try to avoid talking about it. Also, the modern right-wing regressives are the ideological decendants of segregationists, slave holders, old-fashion imperialists (you know, of the European variety), etc. That's why people like Santorum said what he said about "blah" people; same kind of thinking as those before..

As often happens, I agree 100% with everything you say here.

Damn it, Steve! I'm tired of you gays with your "hats" and "t-shirts" and "ball point pens!" You've gone way too far. When will I get those rights?!?

No more compelling argument has ever been given, Steve. We know Christinish people are brainwashed to think they will go to hell if they think otherwise. They are scared of their god and can't think rationally. They are so homophobic they will kill to save themselves in an imaginary afterlife. These people are irrational and dangerous. Bring in the lions. :) (that's a joke in case any Ceratards are listening)
Even if it was an issue of behavior, who cares? Religious practices are behavior, too.

@TheTownEccentric I agree. I said in an earlier comment that I think the "is it a choice?" argument is a red herring. It isn't a choice, but what if it was? It isn't determined by behavior, but what if it was? Should we limit the rights of people because they make choices or engage in behaviors that, though essentially harmless, offend certain other people?

Always well spoken, my good man.
(And right until the end I thought you were going to suddenly have an idea so important that you'd need to rip out that ballpoint clipped to your t-shirt just to jot it down.)

@bobsmeerfak That has been known to happen. It's why I started carrying the pen in the first place. Well . . . that, and signing the bill at the video store. They don't always have a pen at the desk.
