@ludite12 Some of us (many) still think that we live in isolated countries, but that's wrong, and this economic crisis actually began because of this. Think of it: a unified world, a common economy. Unity in diversity - this is the future. If we remove the frontiers of our countries, what do we get? EU.

Warning: EU is still in development, but why would we want do destroy it, rather than do something to save it, to make it better?

@ludite12 I'm sure you realize that there are lots of other problems that directly threaten the poor citizen in a much greater way. If you correctly compare what EU has done for you and what you give, you'll realize that it's worth giving that money. The global economic crisis really hit EU, but after this hard period ends, you'll actually see the good intentions of EU. EU has a single economy where the wealth of a country indirectly affects the other countries in the union.
